MORE than 5,000 youngsters from around the region enjoyed an event to help them discover where their food comes from.

Pupils from 110 primary schools in the North-East and North Yorkshire are attending Countryside Days, which started yesterday and continue today.

The events, hosted by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, are being held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, in Harrogate North Yorkshire.

More than 70 workshops at the event have given the youngsters an insight into country life.

The events include breadmaking demonstrations and lessons on how to care for cattle.

A society spokeswoman said: "The feedback has been very positive.

"The children who came on Tuesday had a great day.

"They enjoyed going from one workshop to the next, and there was a real buzz on the show ground, both from pupils and teachers."
