Landmarks across a city have been lit up in the Ukrainian national colours of blue and yellow as a mark of solidarity with the war-torn nation.
Well-known structures, old and new, around Sunderland were lit from dusk to dawn as a mark of unity with Ukraine on the anniversary of Russia's invasion, which began on 24 February last year.
Blue and yellow lighting shone on the new Northern Spire Bridge, Penshaw Monument, Keel Square, Fulwell Mill, Seaburn Lighthouse and Hylton Castle and will do so for the coming week.
Sunderland City Council leader, Councillor Graeme Miller, said: "A year on from the brutal invasion by Putin's Russia and the people of Ukraine continue to have our unreserved support.

"Ukrainians remain steadfast in the defence of their country and their freedoms, and our city is serious about showing our solidarity and support for Ukraine.”
He added: “Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the people of the Ukraine and their journey to peace.”
Various events and similar gestures have been staged across the region to mark the anniversary of the invasion, which marked a year of suffering for the people of Ukraine.
