Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Northumberland early this morning under suspicion of attempted vehicle theft.
Officers from Northumbria Police have issued an appeal for doorbell footage after the boy was arrested following a suspected vehicle theft in Cramlington this morning (February 24th).
In a statement, police said: “Shortly after 3am, on-patrol officers witnessed someone acting suspiciously, and when confronted he then attempted to make off.”
“Following a short foot chase, a 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, and he remains in police custody at this time.”
This arrest comes after police have issued warnings to car owners in Middlesbrough and Eaglescliffe following a sharp rise in vehicle crime in the region.

The force added: “Quite often, opportunistic offenders go street to street hoping for a quick win – and if a door is locked, they simply move on to the next.”
