Six pubs in the North East need new owners with one venue predicting a turnover of over £500k.

The list, created by Stonegate Group – the UK’s largest pub company, is advertising pubs in Darlington, County Durham and Teesside.

More than 400 pubs across the UK are listed including the Garden House in Durham and the Locomotive in Cambridgeshire.

The sales come as pubs across the UK are facing higher prices of alcohol and food costs as well as keeping up with the rise in energy bills. 

According to The Mirror, in a previous interview with Ian Payne, Stonegate chairman said: "We know what we’re going to pay in February and March, but we still don’t know what we’re going to pay beyond that."

Although Stonegate is not the only pub chain selling up some of its portfolios, with Wetherspoons owner Tim Martin previously sharing he would sell 35 pubs across the UK, with 11 already sold.

1. Doctor Browns, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough

Doctor Browns is being listed with a potential turnover of £240,000 a week and a guide rent per week of £346.

Described by Stonegate Group as “occupying a great spot in the centre of Middlesbrough, with passing traffic to the right and pedestrian footfall to the left.

“Doctor Browns is well-positioned to attract a range of customers”

The venue is described as spacious and traditionally decorated, although it could benefit from some investment.

It adds: “An experienced publican is required to maximise the various revenue streams of this fantastic opportunity.”

2. The Mitre, Harrowgate Lane, Stockton

Described as being situated close to “the large housing estate” in Stockton, Mitre has a potential turnover of £477,000

The main business customer base consists of locals from the surrounding area who seek lunch and evening time food.

With a guide rent per week of £471, Stonegate Group have described the venue has having “plenty of character to attract the local community.”

The description adds: “Stonegate Pub Partners are seeking a strong licensee with high operational standards and catering experience to develop and expand the current food offer.”

3. Unicorn Inn, High Street, Stockton

This 14th century pub boasts heritage and charm and is located in the market town of in the borough of Stockton -on-Tees.

With a potential turnover of £406,000, the venue sports three internal trading areas, a beer garden to the rear and a trade kitchen.

A guide rent per week of £567 has been offered with Stonegate Pub Partners adding: “We are willing to invest in this pub with the right publican to enhance the trading areas to boost trade and maximise revenue.”

4. Hole in the Wall, Horsemarket, Darlington, Durham

A well-known pub in Darlington, the Hole in the Wall has also been listed with a potential turnover of £353,000.

The first floor of the pub offers an additional room which could be utilised as a private function room or separate dining area for a more intimate experience.

Also boasting a great outside space to the front on the market square, which is extremely popular during the warmer months, the guide rent price per week has been predicted at £519.

Stonegate Pub Partners said: “The Hole I the Wall is in fantastic condition, has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and a very loyal clientele.

“The private accommodation consists of two-bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom, perfect for a couple.”

5. Whitehills, Chester-le-Street, County Durham

Described by Stonegate Pub Partners as a “fantastic opportunity” for an experienced publican, the potential turnover for this venue is £524,000.

The guide rent price is the highest on the list at £673, but Stonegate Pub Partners have assured that the venue is “set-up for success.”

Internally, trading areas provide space for various customers, whether it be drinking or dining.

6. Garden House, North Road, Durham

Garden House is expected to have the most turn-over on this list sitting at a potential of £568,000.

Stonegate have stressed that the venue is a “fantastic opportunity for an experienced entrepreneurial operator” with a good record of growing a business.

It adds: “There is potential to grow all aspects of the business including accommodation and bring the Garden House back to its former glory.”

Rent prices per week are currently sitting at £731 for this property.
