A serious collision on a major North Yorkshire A-road left three seriously injured and a man needing to be airlifted to hospital 

Witnesses are being sought after the crash on the A168 at Thornton-le-Street, near Thirsk, at around 10am on Saturday (February 18).

Two women and a man were taken to hospital for treatment and an air ambulance landed at the scene of the three-vehicle crash.

The vehicles involved included a Ford Transit Van and a VW Campervan.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “An initial collision investigation was carried out at these before the area was cleared to enable the road to safely reopen."

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson added: "An officer and crew from Northallerton responded to a report of a three-vehicle RTC that resulted in two vehicles being damaged.

"One female casualty self-extricated from one vehicle suffering a broken wrist, hip injury and chest pains and was transported to hospital via road ambulance.

"One male casualty trapped in another vehicle was extricated by crews and transported to hospital via air ambulance.

"Crews assisted ambulance crews in providing medical treatment to the casualties before making the scene safe and handing the incident over to the police."
