Speaking after the announcement Rod said: “My favourite memories have been summer nights with a beer or two alongside the best fans in the world.
“I’m impatiently awaiting this summer playing at a variety of special venues – football, cricket and rugby stadiums, estates, and castles. We’ll all be dancing under the stars.”
Stewart, who returns to the Riverside following a gig in 2017, will also play dates in Plymouth, Northampton, Bristol, Hull and Edinburgh on a tour of castles, estates and stadiums across the country.
He follows in the footsteps of icon Diana Ross and Michael Bublé who both played the County Durham venue last summer.
