A person has been taken to hospital after 'falling' from the A19 flyover today (February 11).

Emergency services were on the scene after receiving reports of a patient having fell from the A19 flyover above the A66 Southbound into a tree and bushes, before landing on the ground below.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) deployed two ambulances and an air ambulance to the location and arrived on the scene at 12:32pm.

The person was treated by paramedics and a clinical team leader at the scene before being taken to hospital.

In a statement, an NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.32h to reports of a patient who had fallen from the A19 flyover above the A66 into a tree and bushes before landing on the ground below.

"We dispatched two paramedic ambulances, the air ambulance, a clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic to the scene and treated one patient before taking them to hospital."

Meanwhile, multiple vehicles belonging to the NEAS and Cleveland Police reportedly attended.

Cleveland Police confirmed there were long tailbacks on the A19 southbound due to an ongoing incident on the slip road to the A66 earlier today.

They had advised motorists to avoid the area.

Since then, police have confirmed the A66 slip road has been cleared and traffic on the A19 southbound is moving freely.
