A man is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious injuries in an alleged attack outside a Middlesbrough pub.

Police received a report of an assault on Corporation Road, outside The Central, around 11:10pm on Monday, February 6.

A 39-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a ‘critical’ condition.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

 A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Police received a report of an assault on Corporation Road, outside The Central, around 11.10pm on Monday, February 6.

"A 39-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a ‘critical’ condition. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

"Officers believe there may have been others in the area at the time of the incident and would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Detective Constable Joanne Williams on 101, quoting incident number SE23023775.
