Paramedics have undertaken a dramatic rescue of a walker that got into difficulty and sustained serious leg injuries while climbing up a hillside.
On the afternoon of Sunday (February 5), Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were asked by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to go to the aid of a man who had sustained a serious leg injury whilst walking along the Cleveland Way, near Wain Stones.
Two double-crewed Land Rovers were sent from the team’s base whilst other members made their own way to the area.

A mountain rescue doctor was first to arrive and made contact with one of the casualty’s two walking companions.
As other team members started to arrive, they and two hospital personnel were ferried in by the Land Rovers along forest tracks to a point from where they had to walk uphill to reach the casualty site, carrying medical and rescue equipment.
After being given strong pain relief his leg was splinted and he was then lifted onto a mountain rescue stretcher and packaged within a casualty bag to keep warm.
He was then carried downhill and loaded into one of the Land Rovers before being transported to a waiting ambulance for onward treatment at the hospital.
Seventeen team members plus the team’s call-out officer were involved for 3.5 hours plus return travel and vehicle cleaning time.
