A North East grassroots music venue could close after it released an ominous statement which has now been deleted.
Fans and local organisations have expressed their sadness over the news that Westgarth Social Club could close after concerns were raised over its future.
In a statement issued earlier this week on Westgarth Social Club Middlesbrough, which has now been deleted, it was reported that the club had “been losing money since coming out of Covid and has never really recovered.”
The statement added: “We are sorry that it is ending like this but we have always been treat with respect by the staff who worked there.

“We will miss the place and it's an absolute hammer blow for live music in Middlesbrough.”
Tees Music Alliance, a not-for-profit organisation in Stockton aimed at promoting music said it was “so sad to hear the news.”
It said: “It's so sad to hear the news about Westgarth Social Club - breaking a major link in our area's already short chain of music venues.
“The "Westie" has enjoyed a second life as a music venue, thanks to his influence and support.
“Middlesbrough is now without a dedicated grass roots music venue - probably for the first time in living memory. The Westgarth Social Club served that purpose well and will be sorely missed.
“Times are tough and money is tight - but music venues need custom to keep going. Attending a few more gigs each year or having an extra drink at the bar will make a massive difference to your local venue.

“But while we're all worrying about paying extortionate gas bills and putting food on our tables, local people are also losing the good things in our lives like The Westie. Things need to change.”
As the statement has been deleted it is unclear whether the venue will close.
The Northern Echo has contacted organisers at Westgarth Social Club for a comment.
