A hundred homes have been left without power and a road closed after an electric cable fell into the carriageway.
The incident happened shortly after 1pm on Monday (January 30) afternoon when a cable fell into Thinford Road in Tursdale, County Durham.

One hundred homes have been left without electricity with power not expected to be restored until 9pm on Monday evening.
A statement on Northern Powergrid’s website said: “The power cut has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area.”

The Northern Echo contacted Northern Powergrid for more information but they did not respond to our requests for comment.
A spokesperson for Durham Police added: “Police were called at 1pm today (January 30) to reports of a fallen electric cable on Thinford Road, Durham.
“Officers remained at the scene until Northern Powergrid arrived.”
