Seats at Darlington Railway Station are being replaced as part of routine maintenance.
Commuters noticed the seats were cordoned off, and it was speculated that they may have been vandalised.
However, a spokesman for LNER has confirmed that the seats, which have been there for some years, are being replaced.
It's understood that some screws had sheered away from the seats.
Replacements have been ordered, but it's not known how long it will take for the new seats to be installed.
