A North East pub has been named one of the best gastropubs in the UK for 2023 on the coveted Estrella Damm’s top 100 gastropubs list.
The Broad Chare, found in Newcastle upon Tyne has ranked number 19 on the top 100 list beating a large swathe of the competition.
Described as a traditional ale house, the North East pub boasts “well-kept beer, honest food, friendly company and good cheer.”
A description on the pub’s website adds: “Nothing fancy, nothing fussy, just genuine warmth and an open-hearted welcome. A proper pub.”
The venue currently has a 4.5 on TripAdvisor receiving four-and-a-half stars out of five for food and service and four stars out of five on value and atmosphere.

A recent review of the pub said: “Excellent food, great service and homely atmosphere. Highly recommend the Sunday lunch - everything is cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Recommend booking to avoid disappointment.”
The Broad Chare offers traditional bar food, along with a dining menu for those looking for a more decedent menu option.
Menu items include Plaice Fillets with Salsify, Shetland Mussels and Seaweed Butter, or Roast Pollock with Winter Pumpkin, kale and Hazelnut Brown Butter.
