One person has been taken to hospital following a five-vehicle crash on the A1(M) near Washington this morning.
The collision occurred shortly before 7:30am today (Friday, January 20).
Lane two is still closed and police remain at the scene.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.30am today (Friday), we received a report of a collision on the A1 northbound, before J64.
“Emergency services are currently at the scene.”
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a five-vehicle road traffic collision on the A1 northbound near Washington Services at 7.31 this morning.
“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it did not attend.
