A dramatic video has captured a North East waterfall turned violent after heavy rainfall across the region on Wednesday (January 12).

Videos of High Force Waterfall in Barnard Castle show the waterfall flowing quickly and violently in what is an impressive sight.

Persistent heavy rain across the North East has resulted in multiple floods as well as higher waters in many of the region's rivers.

The waterfall is currently reaching record water levels, with more heavy rain on the horizon.

Supplied by the River Tees, the waterfall has been there for thousands of years.

The location is a popular tourist spot and was named one of the top 10 must-see waterfalls in the UK.

However, as we move into early next week on Monday, January 16, the outlook looks a lot more wintery.

The Met Office forecast reads: “On Monday, with cold air in place, showers are likely to be wintry across the north, even to low levels, with some wintriness in showers further south too.

It adds: “Further wet weather is likely, especially in the west, with perhaps a greater incidence of snow compared to what we've seen so far in January.”
