A new care home will be the latest addition to a housing, retail, and industrial development in a County Durham village.
The proposal for the 73-bed facility in Bowburn was approved by councillors without any major objections at a meeting on Tuesday.
It will form part of the exiting Integra61 development to the south of the village near the interchange of the A688 and A1(M).
The approval comes after outline consent for Integra61 allowed for a mixed-use scheme including up to 270 houses, a hotel, a residential care home, general industrial, storage and distribution sites, a public house, nursery and restaurant / hot food take-aways.
A Greggs and Costa Coffee drive-thru have since been built on the site, while Amazon’s Durham centre is also nearby.

The building will form an ‘L’ shaped structure and will be three storeys in height. The proposal was upgraded to 73 beds after the initial application stated 60 bedrooms would be built.
Around 70 jobs will be created to work at the care home.
Local councillor Jan Blakey, of Coxhoe ward, praised the scheme and said it will provide more locally-based services for residents.
