An electrical fault on a battery caused 50 per cent heat and smoke damage to a room of a Middlesbrough house.
Two fire engines attended the scene to minimise the damage.
A warning has now been issued by Cleveland Fire Brigade regarding charging electricals.
The fire service posted on social media, warning the public to be aware of the risks associated with overloading electrical sockets.
The Facebook post read: “This is a reminder to take extra care when charging your electricals…
“We recently attended a house fire in Middlesbrough which was caused by an electrical fault on a battery which overheated whilst charging.
“Two of our fire engines from Coulby Newham and Middlesbrough attended the scene to put out the blaze which caused 50 per cent heat and smoke damage to the utility room, smoke logging to the kitchen and significant boiler damage.
“Please ensure you and your family #StayFireSafe by:
“• Never overloading electrical sockets
“• Watching out for faulty and over-heating electrical equipment and wiring or cables
“• Always having working smoking alarms on every level of your home.”
