A restaurant in Darlington has invested £50,000 with the help from its landlord.
Saltfish is a seafood restaurant and wine bar on the ground floor of Houndgate Townhouse.
The investment, helped by landlords Estill Cooper, has been used to double the size of the current kitchen, creating a larger area for the team to prepare and cook fresh seafood whilst enabling the restaurant to cater for more customers.
Managing Director at Saltfish Jack Bowles said: “Darlington is developing more than ever; the town is welcoming new businesses and more people are moving here. We approached our landlords about the investment and the benefits a larger kitchen would have for Saltfish.
“We can now cater for more customers, people already living here and those moving into the area, which is brilliant.”

Chef Director Ellie Richmond adds: “The larger kitchen also gives me the space to train the chefs to cook with seafood to the highest standard. It’s a better working environment for all our team, which Jack and I think is so important as it allows us to grow the business and continue to provide Darlington with a luxury seafood and wine offering.”
Jack and Ellie reopened the restaurant in October 2021, after a quick transformation of the interiors into a vibrant and convivial space.
The kitchen extension is now complete. Saltfish is open for breakfast, lunch seven days a week and dinner six days a week.
Tables can be booked for roast dinners on Sundays. On Tuesday, January 3, Saltfish is launching a £20 three-course set lunch menu available from noon to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday throughout January.
“This means families and friends can continue to afford a meal out during January, after the Christmas period,” says Ellie.
