A 70-year-old man who was airlifted to hospital after crashing in a North East town yesterday has been detained while he was recovering.
The crash happened on Mitchell Avenue at around 11.47am and involved a Vauxhall Astra colliding with a stationary vehicle.
The road was soon closed for some time as emergency services were on the scene.
Reports confirmed that an air ambulance had landed nearby.

Police later confirmed that a 70-year-old man had been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a three-vehicle crash.
Cleveland Police have now revealed that the 70-year-old driver has been detained in hospital and the other drivers were not seriously injured.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
