A person has been airlifted to hospital after a large presence of emergency service vehicles was seen at a serious incident in County Durham.
Police officers, paramedics, and critical care teams were seen in Bishop Auckland at around 8.25am on Thursday (January 5) following reports of a 'major incident'.
Several reports are suggesting that the incident involved the Newton Cap Viaduct on the A689 - with police officers closing the A-road off for around 45 minutes.

One motorist told The Northern Echo: "The road was completely closed off and all I could see was blue lights around the bridge. There were cars everywhere."
The Great North Air Ambulance has confirmed its attendance at the incident - and has revealed that a person was airlifted to hospital.
A spokesperson for the service said: "Our critical care team were activated to an incident in Bishop Auckland at 8.25am. They arrived on the scene at 8.33am and worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, before airlifting them to hospital."
Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service has been contacted for a comment.
