Temperatures are once again falling across the region this week so we’ve had a look to see the likelihood of snow in the North East.

Today is set to be a cloudy day for much of the North East with extensive fog over hilly areas.

There will be some sunny spells with isolated showers in the east.

For many it will be windy at first with gales possible, however, these will ease as the day goes on.

A maximum temperature of 10c has been predicted.

Moving into the evening, it is set to stay cloudy in Western areas with fog and further rain over hills.

Further east conditions will be dryer with occasional clear spells after midnight.

A minimum temperature of 2c has been predicted.

Will it snow this week?

With unsettled weather likely to continue throughout the next few weeks, the Met Office hasn’t ruled out snow.

The forecaster predicts snow will most likely fall between Sunday, January 8 and Tuesday, January 17.

However, it is unlikely that all of the North East will see the white stuff with it mostly falling on higher ground.

The Met Office said: “Any snow will most likely be confined to northern higher ground.”

The picture is similar for WXCharts who are not predicting any snow in the North East for the next few days.

However, later in the month on Sunday, January 15, it seems the forecaster predicts a storm front will bring a large amount of snow to the region.

But, because this is quite a while away it is likely that the forecast will change for this time period.
