A 30-year-old cyclist has died following a crash in Middlesbrough.
The crash occurred at around 6:15pm yesterday (Monday, January 2).
The male driver of the vehicle aged 35 has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and remains in custody.
There was a large police presence on Park Vale Road and in Albert Park in the town yesterday evening.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “Police were called to a report of a collision involving a bike and a green Audi vehicle on Park Lane in Middlesbrough (near to the Fire Station) last night, Monday 2nd January.
“The collision occurred at around 6:15pm.
“Sadly the 30 year old male rider of the bike died as a result of the collision. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
“The male driver of the vehicle aged 35 was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and remains in custody.
“Anyone with information or CCTV/ dash cam footage of the collision is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 000947
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to the Park Road North area of Middlesbrough shortly before 5pm following reports of a serious road traffic collision.

“We dispatched one ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and an advanced practitioner, and requested support from our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service.”
A spokeswoman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “Yesterday our critical care team were activated at 4.59pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Middlesbrough.
“They arrived on scene at 5.10pm but were stood down from the incident and returned back to base.”
