A popular bar, restaurant and venue has announced its sudden closure.
Woodham Country Club said it had ceased trading with immediate effect on December 30, despite serving Christmas Dinner just days earlier.
The venue, near Newton Aycliffe, has cancelled all pre-booked events and liquidators have been appointed. However, Woodham Golf Club is not affected and will remain open as the golf club and course is owned by a separate tenant.
A farewell post on social media read: “It’s with a heavy heart that the bar and restaurant at Woodham Country Club Ltd has ceased trading from this morning.
“We would like to thank all of our customers for their trade and all the very best for 2023
“The closure means that no pre-booked events will be able to go ahead. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
“Any customers who have paid deposits for events should, in the first instance, contact their card provider.
“We have instructed Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group to assist us with the closure of the Company and the subsequent Liquidation.
“Leonard Curtis will write to creditors in January with an update on the progress of the Liquidation process.
“Please note, the closure relates only to Woodham Country Club Limited and no other companies operating from the site.”
Notices have since been displayed within the clubhouse by the tenant of the restaurant and operator of the catering facilities.

“We would confirm that Club memberships are unaffected by the suspension of trading by the restaurant tenant, with members able to continue to enjoy the use of the golf course and clubhouse,” a statement from the golf club read.
“Restaurant facilities will be suspended until the current tenant’s future trading intentions are clear.
“Should the current tenants be unable to continue providing food and beverage facilities immediately following the Christmas break, it would be the intention of the club owners to take appropriate measures to reinstate the restaurant facilities as soon as possible.”
