Two men have been charged in connection with disorder that took place before Newcastle United's match with Chelsea in November that saw a 20-person fracas occur.

On November 12, the two teams played each other in a Premier League fixture - but it was patches of violence that broke out before the match that grabbed headlines.

Before the two sides met for their league game, violence broke out near the Black and White Bull pub on Barrack Road, Newcastle. 

More than 20 people are believed to have been involved in the incident, which occurred before the game kicked off at St James’ Park at 5.30pm.

Police officers attended the incident - but they have now confirmed that two men have been charged in connection with the violence.

They have also praised other fans that attended the match and behaved well.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the disturbance and two men, aged 38 and 21, have now both been charged with a public order offence.

"The overwhelming majority of football fans in the North East are a credit to the clubs they support."
