Police are continuing to stay quiet about the nature of a major operation trawling the River Tees.
On Tuesday (December 20) teams of specialist officers from Cleveland Police alongside Northumbria Police’s marine unit were seen off University Boulevard in Stockton.
Divers were spotted reportedly trawling through the river for most of the day.

There was a heavy police presence at the scene and a JCB digger which it is believed had been brought in to haul debris out of the river.
Cleveland Police confirmed yesterday that the work is part of a ‘planned search’ of the St Mark’s Basin in Stockton and said that the enquiries are part of an ‘ongoing investigation’.
The force would not, however, be drawn on which investigation the work was linked to.

Work stopped for the day shortly before 4pm as darkness started to fall.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson told The Northern Echo on Tuesday: “Cleveland Police are working with partner organisations to conduct a planned search of the St Mark's Basin in Stockton as part on an ongoing investigation.”
