Two separate crashes led to huge delays on the A19 on Tuesday (December 20) morning causing misery for drivers.
The crashes, which happened near Stockton and Sunderland, both led to long queues during the morning rush hour.
At around 8am two cars were involved in a crash near the turn-off for the A183 on the A19 Northbound near Sunderland.

Emergency services attended the scene while both vehicles were recovered. No one is believed to have been seriously injured.
Drivers reported delays of up to 50 minutes to pass through the area with queueing traffic on both sides of the road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed: “At 8am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound in Sunderland before the turn-off for the A183.
“Emergency services attended and both vehicles have now been recovered from the scene.
“No-one is believed to have suffered serious injuries.”

Meanwhile, shortly before 8.30am, two vehicles collided near the Mill Mews roundabout near Norton, leading to one lane being closed Southbound as police rushed to the scene.
The crash, involving a white KIA and black Audi also led to delays of around 15 minutes.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “A report of a collision involving a vehicle and a stationary vehicle came in at 8.30am this morning on Norton Southbound A19 near the Mill Mews roundabout.
It involved a white KIA vehicle and black Audi, it looks there were no injuries. Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 quoting 228135.”
The two incidents are not known to be related, but are the latest in a long line of accidents on the A19 in recent months.
