The owner of a well-known Darlington boutique has been delighted with a surprise ice sculpture unveiled in honour of the 50th anniversary of her shop.
Beryl Hankin of Guru Boutique on Blackwellgate, in Darlington, was yesterday presented with the sculpture (December 10) as part of the town's ice sculpture trail this weekend.
The business, which was founded in 1972, was presented with its very own ice sculpture bearing the Guru logo by Darlington Borough Council.
Beryl was overwhelmed with emotion when the artwork was unveiled on the street at outside her shop on Saturday.

She said: "We had a really nice surprise this morning when we arrived at work.
"It's the best thing, all day people have been taking photos. People have been putting their heads through and getting their photos taken.
"I got a little text last from somebody to say 'are you in tomorrow', and I said yes, and I thought why? This is why.
"[I'm] absolutely over the moon, we really were overcome. I absolutely love it."
Many customers gathered to take pictures of the sculptures, while some took the opportunity to take their photos with their heads through the gap.
This comes as part Darlington's ice sculpture trail, which attracted hundreds of people to the town, where they marvelled at ice versions of beloved children's characters, angel wings, and penguins.

Many children stared on in awe as their parents snapped photos of them alongside the beautiful frozen artworks, while others even took part in sculpting one.
Meanwhile, maps were on offer to guide visitors around the town centre with the attractions spanning from Queen Street to the local Vue.
Opened on a whim and £300 worth of stock, Guru Boutique is still going strong with a loyal band of customers.
