An address in a North East town has been closed down after reports of crime and antisocial behaviour.

The property, found on Coltman Street in North Ormesby, was closed down on Thursday, December 8 after a closure order was issued by the courts.

Reports from local residents suggested crime and antisocial behaviour was being carried out at the address.

A drugs warrant was also executed by neighbourhood officers in November, resulting in the seizure of suspected class C drugs, along with other drug paraphernalia.

Complaints from local residents included reports of gangs of people fighting in the streets, drugs activity and violent and threatening behaviour.

Seargent John Sproson, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, said: “We have received complaints from many people living in and around the area who have described feeling anxious and fearful living close to this address.

“We won’t tolerate the type of behaviour which makes other law-abiding citizens feel this way in their own homes.

“Today’s closure order means that those in the address have to leave immediately and they property will be closed to tenants for a period of three months.

“I would urge anyone with issues like these to report them to police so that action can be taken and we can deal with those causing misery for everyone else."

After police took action on the property, members of the public were quick to take to social media to praise the police and express their relief that the property had been closed down.

Taking to social media, one person said: "I'm so glad this home from hell has been closed, it was dangerous for the community," while another added: "Brilliant news, great work from the police in shutting his dangerous house down."
