Firefighters have shared images of a devastating fire that hit a derelict building in County Durham - with flames destroying parts of the structure. 

Fire crews from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) were called to a patch of land near to Tanfield Manor in Stanley at around 5.28am on (Sunday, December 4) following reports of a large fire.

Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the day to bring a large fire at an outbuilding under control close to Tanfield Manor.

Working alongside other agencies, Cleveland Fire Brigade were able to minimise the impact of the fire on the local community.

Five fire crews from High Handenhold, Consett, Durham and Spennymoor responded along with the Bulk Water Carrier, Welfare Unit and the Incident Command Unit from Cleveland Fire Brigade.

CDDFRS Group Manager Rob Cherrie, said: “We would like to thank local residents for their patience as we dealt with this incident into the late hours of the evening, and extend thanks to our partners who assisted us.

“Our crews worked extremely hard under difficult conditions to prevent the fire from spreading to the manor house itself as well as a number of other outbuildings.”

"Our crews left the scene at 9.18pm, and an investigation will now be carried out into the cause."

Following the incident, firefighters have now shared images of the devastating aftermath of the incident.
