Four people were hospitalised after a collision caused lengthy delays on Friday evening.

A three-vehicle collision closed the A19, with motorists stuck in traffic on surrounding Teesside roads in Ingleby Barwick, Thornaby, Acklam and Middlesbrough.

The incident was first reported at around 4:15pm and delays lasted for just over three hours before the incident was finally cleared.

Two people transported to hospital by ambulance crews following the collision. Two other people involved in the crash made their own way to hospital as a precautionary measure. 

The road closure remained in place until around 7.30pm. Highways England aid the road was closed with serious injuries report

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call to 999 at 4:16pm to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic incident on Teesside Park Bridge on the A19 north. We sent two clinical team leaders and two emergency ambulance crews to the scene and transported two patients to hospital.

"One was pre-alerted to North Tees and the second was taken to James Cook. Two further patients made their own way to hospital for further treatment."
