A wallaby found in the North East has died in its rescue home.
Choppy, a wallaby found in Chopwell, Gateshead - which Northumberland College and Blyth Wildlife Rescue captured - died earlier this month.
The wallaby found a home at Northumberland College Zoo after Blyth Wildlife Rescue and the college teamed up to bring him safely into a new home after being spotted in Gateshead.
The zoo, located in Ponteland, Northumberland, is based within the 400-acre Kirkley Hall College campus. It is also shared with Kirkley Hall and the site is home to more than 200 species. It is managed by Northumberland College.
After Choppy died, it was revealed in a vet examination of the body that he had underlying health issues.
The college announced the news on November 30 on social media.
A spokesperson for the college said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened to announce that Choppy the Wallaby died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 24.
"A veterinary examination identified that he had pneumonia resulting from an underlying and historic condition.
"This is devastating news, especially for our dedicated keepers and everyone who has been involved in his rescue and care."
