Hard pressed residents can get lessons on how to cook cheaper, healthier meals as part of an event focused on dealing with the cost-of-living crisis.

The drop-in event on Monday (November 28) at the Grangetown United Community Hub, in Derwentwater Road, Grangetown, aims to provide specialist advice and practical support, courtesy of a range of organisations who will be attending.

It has been organised by the group Future Regeneration of Grangetown, better known to locals as FROG, in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council.

Grangetown ward councillor Lynn Pallister, who is a community enterprise manager with FROG, said those signing up to the training sessions will be shown how to cook up to six different meals, which they can take home with them.

A free slow cooker for each household will also be provided.

Grangetown in particular has traditionally been one of Redcar and Cleveland’s most deprived communities.

Cllr Pallister said: “The idea is that groups and services will be able to come together and share examples of how they are supporting people, with a particular focus on the cost of living crisis.

“The aim is to strengthen the way we work together for the benefit of the Greater Eston area.

“Following on from a networking session for community groups there will be food and entertainment and we’ll be running a drop in session for a couple of hours where residents will be able to speak to services who offer a wide range of advice, guidance and support.”

There will be a free buffet from 3pm along with music from soul singer George Williamson.

Between 4pm and 6pm a specialist advice session takes place with the likes of CAB, Age UK, Footprints In The Community and Redcar Mind among those offering guidance.

This slot will also be when the slow cook/healthy meals training will take place.
