A girl is hoping to follow in her father’s footsteps as she takes part in a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with Hartlepool RNLI.
Grace Archer, 16, is learning about what it takes to be part of the RNLI and isn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty.
Grace’s dad Rob has been an RNLI inshore lifeboat helm and crew member at the Ferry Road lifeboat station for more than 20 years.
St Hild's pupil Grace said: “I’ve been going to the lifeboat station with my dad all my life so I was delighted when the chance came to take part in the award here.
“Unfortunately I’m not allowed to go to sea but as part of my project I just muck in with the rest of the crew and have been shown how to navigate, learn first aid and many more skills needed when at sea.
“It’s early days yet and I’ve lots to learn but I’d love to join up and who knows one day I’ll show my dad the ropes!”

Offshore worker Rob said: “My wife Ann Marie, son Thomas and I are so proud of Grace becoming part of the crew during the award and we know she’ll learn lots of skills during her year at the station.
"I don't think it will be long until I see her head out to sea on shouts which will obviously be an emotional moment but I know she will in safe hands.”
Hartlepool Lifeboat Operations Manager Chris Hornsey said: “Grace has quickly become part of the team here and works well with the other volunteer crew.
"Hopefully in a few years time she’ll be knocking on my office door asking to join.”
