These are the first images from the scene of a serious assault in Newtown Aycliffe.
Durham Police were called to the scene in Ashfield, Newton Aycliffe, at about 5pm on Saturday.
The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed one man has been taken to hospital.
The cause and extent of his injuries have not been confirmed.
There have been on social media there has been stabbing and acid attack, though this has not been verified.
The fences of the gardens of a terraced block of housing in Ashfield remained cordoned off.
An officer in a police van is sitting outside guarding the scene, while crime scene investigators carry out an inspection of a property.
Houses on either side are also placed within the cordon.
At the middle property there is a pool of blood and what appears to be bloodstained teatowel.
Neighbours are reluctant to talk about what has happened but have said 'it all kicked off last night'.
