A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after a crash involving two cars in County Durham early this morning (Saturday, November 260.
The A691 Consett Road is closed in both directions due to a collision involving two vehicles between Stockerley Lane (Iveston) and A6076 (Maiden Law).
The road closure is causing major disruption as it is the main road between Consett and Durham, although a diversion is in place at the scene.
Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service attended the scene.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “For Information the A691 is closed in both directions in the Lanchester area at St Bedes Comprehensive.
"Diversions are in place as the road will be closed for a significant period of time. Updates will be provided when we are in a position to reopen.”
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 06.41h reporting that a pedestrian had been involved in a collision with two cars.
"We dispatched two paramedic ambulances, a doctor, specialist rapid response paramedic and a clinical team leader to the scene.
"One patient was treated for chest injuries before being taken to hospital in Newcastle.”
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
