A video released by a North East police force has shown the shocking excuses drink drivers give after being caught.
The video, which was captured by Durham Constabulary body cam footage, is an effort to raise awareness against drink driving.
It comes as the force takes part in a national campaign to target drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol over the Christmas season.
Officers from the force’s Roads and Armed Policing Unit have begun to carry out random vehicle stops in a bid to remove drivers who are under the influence from the roads.

The video shows one instance where a woman has hit a road sign and is told so by an officer.
However, the woman replies: “No I haven’t” to which the officer states: “You have. You’re on top of a road sign.”
Other instances show the abuse police receive for their role in keeping the roads safe.
One drink driver says: “Go and find some proper criminals tonight please instead of getting someone that’s done really nothing wrong.”
