Tourists visiting a family attraction earlier this month were surprised to see a famous musician and TV presenter in their midst, as broadcaster Jools Holland pulled up to Ripon Museum in North Yorkshire.

The broadcaster, who is famous for his stint in the band Squeeze and his TV presenting on Later With Jools Holland, paid a visit to The Workhouse Museum - shocking other visitors who were there at the time.

For those that recognised the musician during his visit, it was an exciting experience to see a celebrity close to home.

Jools, who hails from Blackheath in London, made the trip up to North Yorkshire to try and retrace his family's steps, who used to be in the workhouses in the South of England.

The visit from the presenter was flagged up after the Ripon Museum page posted on their social media page and even managed to chat to Jools briefly about his visit.

On the post, the museum said: "We were delighted to welcome Jools Holland to the Workhouse Museum & Garden this afternoon."

They then quoted Jools as saying: “Ripon Workhouse is the first one I’ve visited. It was an excellent and suitably gloomy experience. It’s helped me to connect with my family member who was in Greenwich Workhouse. I highly recommend it.”

After the post was shared, fans of Jools even took to social media to post how gutted they were at missing the star.

Commenting on his visit, one user said: "Sorry I missed him. He's one of my faves, while another added: "Ohh no, if I only I chose to visit then."
