OUTSTANDING former Year 11 students went back to a North-East school to have their achievements recognised.

The Hummersknott Academy graduating class of 2022 returned to the Darlington secondary school to celebrate their achievements with their teachers and families.

Joseph Fields, Hummersknott’s outgoing head boy, said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Hummersknott. I’ve made some great friends, and it’s really prepared me for the next step and for later life. I think I’ll remember my time here for the rest of my life.”

Outgoing head girl, Madeleine Hawksby, added: “The experience I’ve gained here stands me in good stead for the future, both academically and socially. Now I’m in college, I feel comfortable and in my depth. I feel like I’m ready and prepared, and that’s because of Hummersknott. I’m really happy and thankful that this was my school.”

Prizes were presented by guest speaker Tim Fisher, principal of Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.

James Keating, the executive principal of Hummersknott Academy Trust, said: “We’re immensely proud of all our students tonight as they move on to the next step in their lives. The last few years have been tough, but their resilience and determination to succeed has been truly inspiring.

“We’re delighted to celebrate all their successes with our former students and their families tonight. We wish them all the best for the future.

Head of School, Nick Merifield, said: “We bid a very fond farewell to our class of 2022. They have been incredible, especially considering two years of their education was dominated by the pandemic.

“I hope what they’ve learned at Hummersknott gives them a solid foundation to build their futures upon.”
