Police cordoned off a Darlington road on Tuesday evening after a crash.
A section of Victoria Road near the town centre was closed while officer responded to the incident.
Heavy traffic could be seen throughout the area as motorists faced long delays during rush hour.
The nature of the incident is yet to be confirmed but it is believed a woman was injured. The ambulance service was called to the scene outside Sainsbury’s.
Durham Constabulary and the North East Ambulance Service were contacted for comment.
