A North East town is set to see new car parking spaces opened after “parking pressures”

The 30 new spaces are part of a brand new pay and display car park off West Street in Hartlepool.

The aim of the new car park is to help ease parking pressure in the town.

Thanks to a deal struck by Stockton-Borough-Council, the project was successful and has been secured for a 30-year period.

An initial 30 spaces are available now with a further 25 set to be freed up once additional work on boundary walls has been completed.

Councillor Mike Smith, the councils cabinet member for Environment and Transport, said: “The new spaces come at a good time for residents, businesses and visitors to Yarm in the run up to Christmas.

"The landowner Mowden Park Estate Company working with us and contributing significantly to the project through the demolition work and site clearance has helped get this project delivered."
