A fire at a food wholesaler in County Durham resulted in the emergency services being called.
George Bolam Food Ltd in Sedgefield, County Durham was spotted on fire this afternoon at approximately 5pm today (Wednesday, November 9).
A Northern Echo reader captured the moment the site was ablaze for roughly half an hour before emergency services arrived.
Both the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and the North East Ambulance Service attended.
A spokeswoman from the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call to 999 at 15:56 to reports of a fire at George Bolam Food Limited on Salters Lane in Sedgefield. We sent four Hazardous Area Response Teams and a clinical team leader to support fire colleagues. No one required treatment and all of our teams stood down at the scene.”
Local historian Geoff Hill, who witnessed the incident, said: “I first noticed it at 3:55pm and saw the staff from Sainsbury’s next door cordon off the petrol station and the fire brigade and ambulances arrived about half an hour later.”
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service was approached for comment.
