A new trader is set to bring a touch of spice to a town’s market hall by opening a Mexican-Californian fusion street food stall.

Fourteen Street Kitchen is the latest addition to Darlington Market’s food hall operated by Market Asset Management, joining the five other independent street food vendors.

The new stall is the creation of a local entrepreneur and officially launched on Thursday, offering Burritos, Chilli-dogs, and melt-in-the-mouth Brisket.

Alex Marshall, the owner and mastermind of the business, said she’s delighted to get started in the town centre.

She said: “The renovation of Darington's indoor market is an exciting vibrant hub. A place to be, a place to go - a natural fit for our new concept.

“Fourteen Street Kitchen is a new take on the exciting bold flavours of Mexican food tempered by the Californian influences of the sun-kissed outdoor lifestyle. Naturally wholesome but bringing your taste buds alive.”

“The food is based around a healthier take on the classics: nachos, burritos, chili dogs and Tex / Mex fries.”

This new arrival to Darlington Market comes in quick succession to the launch of Bliss Desserts, offering freshly made Doughnuts, Crepes, and Ice Cream loaded Bubble Waffles, and Olive’s Cypriot Food with their packed Gyros and Mezze Platters. They join Manao Thai, Kabao, and Spud Gun Loaded Fries.

The announcement comes as redevelopment work on the historic facility continues. New jobs will be created through the launch of a new basement prohibition-era inspired bar ‘The Vault’ offering real ale, hand-selected wines, spirts and cocktails.

MAM’s General Manager for Darlington Markets, Michael Harvey, said: “Darlington Market is transforming at pace, and it’s so great to see incredible businesses like Fourteen Street Kitchen queuing up to be a part of it. This is an exciting time for the town.”
