MPs were seen in Parliament today wearing black and yellow badges during Prime Minister’s Questions.
Rishi Sunak faced questions over the resignation of Gavin Williamson while Ian Blackford called for Alister Jack’s sacking as the Scottish Secretary is in line for a peerage.
What are the badges for?
The badge is in support of the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association (BNTVA).
The charity helps veterans of nuclear testing along with their wives, widows and descendants.
When and why was the charity set up?
The BNTVA was first established in 1983 to gain recognition for the British nuclear test veterans who took part in both British and American nuclear testing at the Montebello islands, Christmas Island, Malden Island and Maralinga and Emu Field in South Australia.
According to the charity’s website, 22,000 British servicemen participated in the tests between 1952 and 1965.
It promotes research into the effects of radiation on people and educate the public about nuclear testing.
SNP Support
SNP MP Carol Monaghan previously wrote to Boris Johnson when he was still prime minister urging him to award medals and financial compensation to Christmas Island veterans.
