Three people were transported to hospital after a crash closed a major road near Darlington for several hours.
Emergency services were called to the A68 West Auckland Road, at Burtree, at around 10.50am.
Durham police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called after a vehicle ended up on its roof in a field next to the road following a crash.
Motorists were advised to find an alternative route throughout Sunday morning and early afternoon after an extensive incident response team was deployed by NEAS.
The road reopened just after 1.30pm.
A NEAS spokesperson said: "One of our emergency ambulance crews came across a vehicle on the roof in a field off the A68 near Darlington at 10:50am today.
"We sent a further emergency ambulance, clinical team leader, specialist paramedic, a doctor and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
"Two patients were taken to Darlington Memorial hospital and a third was transported to James Cook for further treatment."
