A car was found abandoned in a County Durham village on Bonfire Night
The vehicle was at Cookshold Lane in Sherburn, Durham at approximately 7pm last night (Saturday, November 5), leading residents to believe someone had taken Bonfire Night a bit too seriously.
A resident of Sherburn, Andrei Lespezeanu, noticed a fire engine from his house and went to investigate.
The incident caused much confusion on social media, when Andrei posted pictures of the car in the group Sherburn Village and Sherburn Hill Notice Board.
Speaking to The Northern Echo, Mr Lespezeanu said: “It was really strange. I saw the fire engine from my house. The car looked as though it had been driven there recently, I’d never noticed it there before so I don’t think it had been abandoned for a long time.
“I hope the car wasn’t stolen,” he added.
A spokeswoman for Durham Police said:“Emergency services were called at 5.20pm on Saturday (November 5) to reports of a burnt-out car on Cookshold Lane, Sherburn Village.”
In the Facebook group, comments were pouring in over what could have happened.
County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service was approached for comment.
