Thirsk Yarn Bombers' poppy display for 2022 has been described as a "totally spectacular sight" following its installation at the weekend.
The town has been taken over by cascades of poppies adorning the town clock, and other buildings, as well as knitted heads and figures of Army, Navy and RAF personnel alongside representatives from the Home Guard and Land Army girls. There is even a cascade of purple poppies for animals which served in wartime.
The display is all thanks to the hard work and imagination of more than 35 members of Thirsk Yarn Bombers, who this year were asked to base their figures on memories of the war from friends and family.
Yarn Bomber Irene Marwood said: "We just wanted to make it a bit more personal and we managed to get some head figures of soldiers. Everyone is enthusiastic to create the displays and we have had so many wonderful comments.
"It is a very important time and it is nice to mark it. The display really has been appreciated by so many people, we wanted to come up with something different so the figures are a new approach.

"We put the ideas out and often the basic patterns and the bombers come up with the finished articles, the details they put into them is fantastic.
"We all help each other, often it is confidence and working out how to achieve what we want."
Thirsk resident Linda Potter said: "It is absolutely stunning, a totally spectacular sight."
Another resident said it was the best ever display. It will be in place until November 20 when it will make way for a Christmas spectacular which the knitters are currently working on.
Local electrician Dresser Electrical helped Thirsk Yarn Bombers decorate the clock and taller buildings, while in Ripon, fire and rescue crews were drafted in to help with similar efforts.
Through Ripon Community Poppy Project, the city has been decorated with thousands of poppies along with silhouettes of soldiers. Cascades of poppies were put up on the city's historic hall.
A special remembrance concert is being held at Ripon Cathedral on November 10 at 7.15pm supported by the Dishforth Military Wives Choir, the Duchy Belles and Ripon City Band. Tickets are available from stuff 4 offices and the Wakeman cafe.
