The North East has been rocked by heavy rain over the past 24 hours after Met Office issued a yellow warning for the wet stuff.

However, that might not be the last of it, as more unsettled weather is set to hit the region this week.

Today many will have woken up to wet weather, but it could become quite heavy at times according to the weather forecaster.

Luckily early rain is set to clear leaving behind sunny spells with some isolated showers this morning.

It will be mainly dry and bright by the afternoon with stronger winds easing and a maximum temperature of 13c.

As we move into the evening and tonight, showers are set to begin again for a time before clearing once more and leaving a largely clear night.

Met Office issues further weather warning this weekend

However, the clear and settled weather is not set to last as the weather forecaster has issued a yellow warning for wind.

The warning affects much of the North East and North Yorkshire and is set to be in place from 7am tomorrow and 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely with some buses and train services also affected.

Short-term loss of power and other services are also possible according to the Met Office and it is likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and or large waves.

Throughout this Windy period heavy rain is also likely on occasion and a maximum temperature of 12c has been predicted for tomorrow.

What’s the weather like for the rest of the week?

Between Thursday and Saturday, unsettled conditions will continue with occasional heavy showers and longer spells of rain likely.

Further strong winds are likely on Friday and Saturday daytime with temperatures mostly around average.
