A County Durham community has been left in shock after two people were taken to hospital following a "disturbance".

Officers from Durham Police were called to a property in Ripley Court, Sacriston, at around 4.30pm on Wednesday (October 26) following reports of an alleged altercation on nearby Front Street.

A police cordon was put in place around Front Street on Wednesday evening while police officers investigated and specialist forensic officers were seen at the property on Ripley Court on Thursday (October 27) afternoon.

Police later confirmed that two men were taken to hospital and treated, having since been released.

Three men and a woman have since been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

Broken glass and boarded-up windows could be seen at the address where the incident happened.

Although the incident was over, blood splatters could be seen at the location of the site.

Many nearby businesses and residents said they didn’t know much about the incident and had just heard mostly gossip.

A local eyewitness said: "it's mental round here."

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance at an address in Ripley Court, Sacriston, shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday, October 26.

“It is believed it is linked to an altercation that took place in Front Street a few minutes earlier.

“Two men were taken to hospital but have since been released.

“Three men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

They added: “Officers would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection to it.

“Anyone with any information or dashcam footage is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 280 of October 26.”
