A North East chippy has made it to the finals of the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023.
Locker’s Fish & Chips on the High Street in Marske by the Sea is one of ten finalists announced in the awards’ Best Newcomer category.
It’s the only chippy in the North East to make the shortlist, with the next nearest being Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough in East Yorkshire.
The finalists were chosen based on extensive applications submitted by fish and chip shops from around the UK, who had opened since January 2021 and were judged by a panel of industry specialists.
Locker’s Fish & Chips posted on social media that they were 'so proud' and 'over the moon' to have made the shortlist.
Andrew Crook, awards president, said: “We’re delighted with the uptake of applications for Best Newcomer.
“As we all know, it’s been a difficult period for the fish and chip industry (and world!), so it’s great to see such strong businesses come to light and sit amongst the best in the country.
“We’re looking forward to seeing how these businesses continue to grow and crowning the 2023 winner at the awards next year.”
The winner will be announced at The National Fish and Chip Awards, hosted by The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), on February 28, 2023 at the Park Plaza on Westminster Bridge.
