Floral tributes have been left at the scene where a young boy was tragically killed.
The 11-year-old boy was riding a bicycle when he was hit by a bus on Lizard Lane in Whitburn at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, October 25).
Today, (Wednesday, October 26) tributes to the boy including flowers, a crucifix and photographs have been left at the site of the tragic incident.
Handwritten messages described him as "the most amazing, kind-hearted, beautiful boy."
They said: "You filled everyone's life with so much joy and you were taken to soon. 11 years just wasn't enough you have left the hearts of many broken.
"Forever loved, forever missed, never forgotten."
Another person described him as "the brightest star in the sky."
Another tribute at the scene read: "What a tragic loss of a beautiful boy. Our thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.
"He was a wonderful boy and he will be badly missed."
Although formal identification is yet to take place, the boy's family is being supported by specialist officers.
An investigation is ongoing by Northumbria Police who are appealing to anyone who might have dashcam footage to come forward.
Inspector Phil Patterson, of Northumbria Police, said: “This collision has had devastating consequences for all involved, and our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“We are working hard to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision and have spoken with a number of witnesses already to help us build up that picture.
“We are now asking for anyone else who saw what happened or who may have dashcam from the area to get in touch and assist us.”
